The ACDP Martial Arts component is run by the PNG Shaolin Kung Fu Wushu School. This martial arts training is a holistic program that incorporates physical, mental and spiritual concepts in art form. Just like ACDP, the values of Kung Fu include respect, integrity, self-discipline, humility, loyalty, benevolence, filial piety and love.
Part of this training includes meditation, which helps the practitioner to relax and control their thoughts through special breathing techniques. Through these methods participants become strong, fit, self-aware and peaceful individuals. The motto of Kung Fu is “Courage for Life,” speaks to being brave enough to complete a given task even if it is outside of one’s comfort zone.
This partucular Kung Fu fighting style was developed by Shaolin monks and is a combination of exercises, fighting techniques and fitness regimes that combines martial arts and philosophy. Woven throughout the discipline is a practice of self-mastery and a strict warrior code of discipline, ethics, morality and honour that the students must follow.
An important aspect of ACDP is the direct experience. It centers around not just talking about good health and mind expansion, or simply reading about it, but the actual experience of it. Shaolin Kung Fu does exactly that, and with each level og experience achieved physically, a mental and spiritual acheivement is also achieved to give a whole, holistic development for participants.
Kung Fu training through the ACDP is free of charge and is open to the public. Training takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the South Side Fitness Center, Koki from 9:00am-12:30pm. Children of ages between 6-13 can also learn Kung Fun on Mondays and Wednesdays through ACDP’s Pikinini Pilai Program from 3:00pm-5:00pm.
Preparations for Saturday, August 13, 2022 is already underway, where ACDP will celebrate World Kung Fun Day in partnership with the PNG Shaolin Kung Fu School. This event is open to all and will start with walk to Ela Beach followed by a Tai Chi class open for everyone at 6:30am. Join us for exciting and free workshops, performances and Kung Fu classes.
