The inaugural PNG CIRCUS SHOW was held in collaboration with the Active City Development Program (ACDP) and took place at the Moresby Arts Theatre on April 14 and 15, 2023. The show featured international artist Piva from Brazil and talented Papua New Guinean performers showcasing acrobatics, juggling, clowns, balancing, aerial silk, mime, and more, entertaining both children and adults. It was the first time that PNG celebrated the World Circus Day (WCD), which is held annually on the third Saturday in April.
The PNG CIRCUS is the first Circus Team and Social Circus in Papua New Guinea initiated by ACDP in 2018, aimed at empowering and transforming youths through physical activities and arts.
The circus show received great feedback from the audience, including Nallie, who was blown away, Angela who highly recommended it, and three friends who described it as amazing, fantastic, and impressive. Parents from Australia also praised the show as suitable for all ages.
Nadya Evi thanked ACDP and PNG Circus for the chance to showcase her talent, while Ahia Enoch was thrilled to meet people from diverse backgrounds as part of the team. The other nine performers aspire to gain recognition and represent both in PNG and globally.
Thanks to the overwhelming demand, two more shows were held on April 30th, Sunday both featuring international artist Piva and homegrown Papua New Guinean performers.
The shows were supported by ACDP, Color Studios, Stop & Shop Waigani Central, Waterfront FoodWorld, and media partners.
