World Wushu Kung Fu Day & International Youth Day

ACDP hosted Youth Day and World Wushu Kung Fu Day as combined events to engage the youth of Port Moresby in August. The theme for International Youth Day this year was Intergenerational Dialogue while The World Wushu Kung Fu Federation’s theme for World Wushu Kung Fu Day was, “Wushu, Youth and Future.” Both themes and events combined to encourage the youth to learn from their leaders and elders and to be the best that they can be for the future of their communities.

In keeping in line with intergenerational dialogue, ACDP hosted International Youth Day at the South Side Fitness Center, Koki, on August 12, 2022. Sanap Wantaim lead the behaviour change workshop and Sifu Steven Ngandang taught the Kung Fu class. Andrew Molen, the National Development Officer for the Kung Fu Wushu Association of PNG taught a workshop on Kung Fu values.

The second day of the combined celebrations for International Youth Day and World Wushu Kung Fu Day took place on Saturday, August 13, 2022. The day began with an early morning walk from Sir Hubert Murray Stadium to Ela Beach. Once at Ela Beach Sifu Steven Ngandang lead the Tai-Chi practice. Following this were martial arts demonstrations by South Side Tai-Chi and Choi Li Fut Kung Fu as well as Active City Development Program’s Kickboxing team.

The ACDP Dance team also performed onstage during World Wushu Kung Fu Day. East Gate Shotokan Karate Academy-Budokai and Gerehu Kung Fu also performed martial arts demonstrations.  ACDP PNG Circus closed out the performances and demonstrations by combining the martial-arts theme into their show.
